Ok here it is, WordPress 3.0 “Thelonious”. I just read it on the internet and I updated my RC version with only 2 mouse clicks from the dashboard. While I was writing this post I noticed that I was adding a page instead. They seem to differ.

There are several new features added since 2.9 including the possibility to create custom menu’s. Also a nice feature is that you can create custom menu’s. You can add items to it like links to an existing page or category within WordPress, or a link to an external website. The default theme is replaced by the new ‘Twente Ten Theme’ and also the admin area is has a new look. I didn’t test it, but it seems possible users can create separate blogs now from one WordPress. See the release notes for detailed information about this release.

The WordPress 3.0 video tour below.

Yesterday I installed a new version of WordPress. I was curious about this upcoming 3.0 release, and since there is a 3rd RC version already I installed it. In the previous WordPress version I had disabled comment posting for non-registered users because of the flood of spam messages I received, but I now enabled it again and activated an anti-spam plugin. Now I’m online 1 day and I still not have a spam comment on my posts, yay! As you can see the layout changed, but it might be temporary. It’s just the new default template for WordPress 3.0. When the final version is there I will install it.

That’s quite amazing. In 2007 this number was 6 hours of video per minute and in January last year, more than 15 hours per minute was being uploaded. So the numbers has been growing quite fast in this period.

I’m not very active as you can see, so I want to celebrate this with writing a second-post-of-the-year.

Since a couple of months I’m using Google Talk a lot more than before. Last week I just wondered if it is possible to run multiple instances of Google Talk. You might think why should I use multiple instances but it becomes handy when you have multiple accounts and you want to be online with both at the same time. It is very simple to do this, you only have start Google Talk with a parameter. To make that easy you can edit your current shortcut to Google Talk or make a new shortcut with the following action (assuming your installation folder is the same):

“C:\Program Files\Google\Google Talk\googletalk.exe” /nomutex

Now when you run Google Talk using that shortcut and do it a second time, you see a new instance showing up.
